Where to: coffee

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

Come rain or shine, Newquay is fast becoming a hub for coffee lovers around the coast. With a range of new independent coffee shops popping up, we’ve tried and tested the lot to give you the heads up on where is best to try. With a national chain on every street corner, these little beauties go above and beyond to offer the latest foodie trends, home-baked goodness and wide range of treats to satisfy any craving.

Box & Barbour Coffeehouse

Their summer menu includes a fantastic range of smoothies and juices, on top of some truly gorgeous coffee and daily changing sweet treats and sandwiches that will tempt anyone! They are also venturing out into exhibitions of local artists and photographers, you’ll get much more than just a coffee from this coffeehouse. Take a look at their Facebook page here and follow them on Instagram here.

The Jam Jar

This stunning little coffee shop is well worth checking out. With drinks served in a range of the shop's namesake, they offer an awesome range of organic coffee, lattes and iced coffees to perfectly complement the homemade goodies on offer. The staff are expert “frothers” and pros at matching flavourings with milks, including almond and coconut options for a summery feel. You can also pick up a range of savoury snacks, including special appearances of lamb and rosemary sausage rolls and bagels to keep hunger at bay. Their delicious cakes also cater for gluten, sugar and dairy free, meaning no one has to miss out. With a little decking out front, this place can fill up fast. Take a look at their Facebook page here and follow them on Instagram here. And if you're in Crantock, check out the Jam Jar Kitchen for all the same goodness, plus some of the best stonebaked pizzas in the area.

Bay Bar

The ultimate in luxury, why not treat yourself to panoramic views of the iconic Fistral Beach while indulging in speciality coffees and hot chocolates. Located at the beachfront Fistral Beach Hotel, with both a decking and comfortable adult-only bar area, come rain, shine or wind, you can watch the surfers brave the cold and sit back and relax in comfort. Offering a full bar menu throughout the day so you can keep hunger at bay, or go all out with a tempting afternoon tea, including all the classics as well as a couple of twists. Take a look at their Facebook page here and follow them on Instagram here.

Basket

Making its debut in 2020, Basket has been a haven and become a mainstay for passers-by on Tower Road. Expect to queue for the sensational Monmouthshire coffees, homebaked cakes and pastries and incredible sandwiches. We promise you, the (very short) wait is well worth it to grab some goodness before taking a wander down to the harbour. Drool over their cakes on Facebook here and Instagram here.
