What to do: May Bank Holiday Weekends

With three Bank Holiday weekends during May there is lots of fun and adventure to be had. Whether you're a local or visiting for the first time, we have compiled a list of activities and events to make the most of your holiday weekend. From surfing on the crystal-clear waters to savouring delicious food and drinks, there is something for everyone to enjoy.




If you are looking for some thrilling water activities, look no further than the Quiksilver Surf School Newquay.


Whether you are a beginner or an experienced surfer, their team of expert instructors can provide you with group or private surfing and body board lessons tailored to your skill level. They also offer private surf and body board hire, so you can hit the waves on your own.


If you are up for a real adventure, their group outings for surfing, body boarding, and coasteering are perfect for those looking to explore the rugged Cornish coastline.

If you want a true taste of Newquay and Cornwall then look no further than the 'Real Ale and Pie Festival' at The Smuggler's Den Inn in Cubert running the 28th, 29th, and 30th of April.


Featuring a festival bar with a selection of 50 ales and 20 ciders, this festival is the perfect place to revel in some of the region's best brews. And with three days of live entertainment from local music artists, you are sure to be in for a great time.


But don't wait too long to get your ticket - they are already selling quickly!



The Cornwall Home & Garden Show, supported by Shop Cornish and Cornwall Living, is a must-visit event for those looking to start or complete their homebuilding or renovation projects.


With over 100 companies offering bespoke advice, innovative products, and a variety of displays on garden and interior design, eco-solutions, and architecture, the event promises to provide the perfect destination all your events.


The two-day event, running the 29th and 30th of April, also features 'A Bite of Cornwall' Food & Drink Market and a Homeware Market, making it a perfect weekend activity to browse, try, and taste some of Cornwall's best produce and interior products.




On May 6th, 2023, King Charles III's Royal Coronation will be live-streamed from Westminster Abbey and shown on a large screen on Killacourt Newquay.


This oceanside arcade is made up of unique local businesses and beautiful green space, often home to live entertainment.


The event will start at 10 AM and is free, but visitors are advised to arrive early to secure the best view.


Bring your own picnic or enjoy local food and drinks while watching history being made.





The Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa is once again hosting their infamous 'Bank Holiday Sunday Bottomless Brunches' and it is a personal fave of ours.


Guests can enjoy delicious brunch classics, sip on sparkling cocktails, and enjoy the beats of a DJ playing a mix of old school and deep house music.


The next two bottomless brunches are on the 7th and 28th of May from 11 AM - 2 PM with pre-booking required. For £32.00 per person with a two-course brunch, unlimited mimosas or bloody mary's, it is the perfect way to spend a Sunday watching the wave roll across Fistral Beach.






Experience a night to remember with Sky Bar - a pop-up bar with breathtaking views of the sea. This adults-only event will be held from the 26th to the 28th of May. 2023 at Watergate Bay.


With lively music, delicious drinks, and a spirited atmosphere, it is the perfect way to spend your evening during the Bank Holiday weekend.
